Playa El Cortecito – Bavaro
El Cortecito is a neighborhood in Bavaro with a very popular beach by the same name. It is often referred to as “the heart of Bavaro”.
Atmosphere:
This neighborhood is funky, fun and full of locals, expats and tourists alike. In some areas much of the beach is washed away so many of the shops and restaurants are literally touching the incoming waves. Other parts of el Cortecito have expansive areas to set you chairs or towels. Here you will find many gift and craft shops – don’t miss out on tasting some Mamajuana – a wild concoction of rum, red wine, honey and local herbs…they say it’s a natural aphrodisiac!
Activities:
Many of the water excursions depart from here and there is lots going on!
Party boats, spa excursions, natural pool expeditions, windsurfing, motor boating….the list goes on and on!
There are many restaurants like the famous Capitan Cook, Bella Napoli, an Italian trattoria known for the “best Pizza” and the new Spanish eatery, El Chirinquito where you can kick back and enjoy the scenery.
Crowd Factor:
Always busy but not crowded.
Access:
Take any side road off of the main street, Avenida Alemania, between
Plaza Turquesa and Bella Napoli Restaurant, and you will find Playa El Cortecito.
Accommodations:
Everything is within walking distance and there are many small hotels, apartments and inns as well as the larger resorts. Presidential Suites, A Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Resort has an impressive presence on Playa el Cortecito.
To Be Noted:
Many restaurants have sun chairs available but there are areas that are open spaces so be prepared to lay your towel on the sand. This is a very laid back, casual and cool neighborhood.
